INSTRUCTIONS:
- THIS IS A 250 WATT 220 VOLT GROOVER AND IS SUPPLIED WITH A STANDARD PLUG. IN MANY COUNTRIES, THE PLUG WILL BE CORRECT, AND USING THE GROOVER WILL BE AS SIMPLE AS PLUGGING IT IN & LETTING IT GET WARM. IN MANY AREAS OF THE WORLD, IT WILL BE NECESSARY TO REMOVE THE PLUG AND INSTALL THE CORRECT PLUG FOR YOUR ELECTRIC SUPPLY. YOU WILL NEED TO PURCHASE THE PLUG FOR YOUR ELECTRIC SUPPLY, AS IDEAL DOESNT HAVE ANY WAY TO SUPPLY THIS VAST ARRAY OF PLUGS. THIS SHOULD BE DONE BY SOMEONE WHO IS EXPERIENCED WITH THE ELECTRIC SUPPLY IN YOUR AREA, AND SHOULD ALSO BE INFORMED THAT THE GROOVER IS 250 WATT 220 VOLT. THIS IS NOT AN INSTANT HEAT GROOVER, IT WILL TAKE A FEW MINUTES FOR THE HEAD AND BLADE TO GET HOT. IF AFTER 5 MINUTES, THE HEAD AND BLADE ARE NOT GETTING WARM, THE ELECTRIC SUPPLY IS INCORRECT. IF YOU ARE TRYING TO USE THIS GROOVER IN THE UNITED STATES, THIS ISNT THE GROOVER YOU NEED. THE GROOVER FOR USE IN THE US WITH 110 VOLT SYSTEMS IS AVAILABLE HERE.
- THIS IDEAL GROOVING IRON IS USED EXTENSIVELY FOR CUTTING GROOVES IN VARIOUS WIDTHS AND DEPTHS IN HEAT SENSITIVE MATERIALS, SUCH AS RUBBER OR PLASTIC.
- THE BLADE SIZE SHOULD ALWAYS BE MATCHED TO THE HEAD SIZE TO PREVENT BLADE DAMAGE AND ALSO TO PREVENT AN IRREGULAR GROOVING SHAPE; EXAMPLE: #4 HEAD REQUIRES A #4 BLADE, ETC. THE BLADES CAN BE INVERTED ON THE HEAD TO ALLOW THE GROOVING IRON TO BE USED AS A SIPING TOOL.
- THE BLADE WILL NEED TO BE PINCHED TOGETHER AND INSERTED BETWEEN THE 1/2" SQUARE CLAMPING BLOCKS ON EACH SIDE OF THE HEAD. THE BLADE SHOULD BE POSITIONED BETWEEN THE SCREW AND THE SHOULDER ON THE HEAD, WITH THE SHARPENED EDGE FACING FORWARD WHEN THE HEAD IS INSTALLED IN THE GROOVING IRON.
- LEAVE THE BLADE EXTENDED THE REQUIRED LENGTH TO ACHIEVE THE PROPER DEPTH OF THE GROOVE THAT YOU DESIRE. TIGHTEN THE SCREW TO SECURE THE BLADE IN PLACE.
- INSERT THE GROOVING HEAD IN THE GROOVING IRON AND POSITION THE BLADE DOWN TO ALLOW THE SCREW TO CONTACT THE FLAT AREA ON THE GROOVING HEAD AND TO ACHIEVE A COMFORTABLE GROOVING ANGLE. TIGHTEN THE SCREW TO RETAIN THE GROOVING HEAD AT THIS TIME.
- THE GROOVING IRON SHOULD BE ALLOWED TO HEAT FOR 10 TO 15 MINUTES TO ALLOW THE HEAD AND BLADE TO REACH A SUFFICIENT TEMPERATURE TO MAKE GROOVING EASIER.
- NEVER HANG THE GROOVING IRON WITH THE BLADE AND HEAD POINTED DOWN, AS HEAT RISES & THE FIBERGLASS NYLON HANDLE WOULD MELT. ALWAYS HANG THE GROOVING IRON WITH THE BLADE AND HEAD ABOVE THE HANDLE
- THE ART OF GROOVING EFFICIENTLY IS A FUNCTION OF PRACTICE AND USING GOOD JUDGMENT, BY CONTROLLING THE RATE OF FORWARD MOTION, RELATIVE TO THE WIDTH AND DEPTH OF THE GROOVE AND THE HEAT THAT IS REQUIRED. THE BRASS GROOVING HEAD SHOULD BE KEPT IN CONTACT WITH THE AREA AHEAD OF THE CUTTING BLADE TO PREHEAT THE SURFACE FOR EASIER GROOVING. THE HOTTER THE HEAD AND BLADE THE EASIER THE FORWARD MOTION WILL BE ACHIEVED. THE WIDER AND DEEPER THE REQUIRED GROOVE IS, INCREASES THE AMOUNT OF HEAT REQUIRED TO REMOVE MATERIAL, RESULTING IN A LOSS OF FORWARD MOTION SPEED. WIDER AND DEEPER GROOVES WILL GENERALLY RESULT IN MORE EFFORT BY THE OPERATOR, INCREASING ARM AND HAND FATIGUE. NEVER GROOVE WITH MUD OR DIRT ON THE PLASTIC OR RUBBER, AS THIS RESULTS IN EXTREME EFFORT AND DULLS THE GROOVING BLADE PREMATURELY. ALWAYS CLEAN THE SURFACE BEFORE ATTEMPTING TO GROOVE.
- CAUTION: ALWAYS USE EXTREME CARE IN PINCHING BLADE FOR INSERTION BEHIND CLAMPS, THE LEADING EDGE OF THE BLADE IS EXTREMELY SHARP.
- ALWAYS GROOVE WITH YOUR FREE HAND BEHIND THE GROOVER. NEVER POSITION YOUR FREE HAND AHEAD OF THE GROOVER TO STEADY THE WORK SURFACE. WE STRONGLY RECOMMEND WEARING A HIGH QUALITY, HEAT RESISTANT GLOVE WHEN GROOVING.
