Brand New Steering Kit for the GM Power Steering Boxes on the applications listed below.  These are brand new items produced by Southwest Speed Inc.  They replace the OEM parts and work perfectly with all connecting components in the correct application.

Applications:

  • This kit fits the stock GM Power Steering Box and the stock tie rod ends on the following cars:
    • 1964-65 All Pontiac GTO, Lemans, Grand Am, Grand Lemans, Tempest, & T37
    • 1966-67 All Oldsmobile Cutlass, F85, Vista Cruiser, 4-4-2, & Calais (RWD)
    • ***1964 (1st Design) Chevy Chevelle, El Camino, & Malibu***
    • ***1964 (1st Design) Buick Skylark & Special (RWD)***
    • ***1964-65 (1st Design) Oldsmobile Cutlass, F85, Vista Cruiser, 4-4-2, & Calais (RWD)***
  • ***This kit contains the RARE "1st Design" 13/16" Diameter center link that came on a limited number of the applications listed with the ***. For those applications above listed with that ***, GM began making these cars with this 13/16" Diameter link. In the middle of production, they changed to a 7/8" Diameter link (we also have the idler arm for the 7/8" link available here in our store). Since these 13/16" links were made on a smaller percentage of the cars, they have become almost impossible to find over the years. The 13/16" link has 7/16"-20 thread tapered studs, while the 7/8" link has 1/2"-20 thread tapered studs.
  • The stock power steering box on these cars is what is referred to as the "Big GM Power" box, and also commonly known as the 700 series Saginaw box.  It was the dominant power steering box on almost all GM cars through 1977 & about half of all GM cars from 1978 to the early 90's.  This box is distinct for its square, 4-bolt housing cover, as opposed to the round, ring-retained housing cover on the newer model "Small GM Power" box.  This note is only added for customers to determine which box they have if they DON'T have the stock power box from the above applications.  If you DO have the stock power box from the above applications, then you don't have to worry about identifying the box because this kit should fit it just fine.
